How To Print Gridlines In Excel
+ How To Add And Edit Them As well!

You probably don't think about Excel's gridlines very frequently?

They're in that location, they separate cells, and that's it.

But sometimes you lot want to make some tweaks 🙂

Like adding gridlines to your print of a document. Or changing the colour.

No matter what you're trying to exercise with your gridlines, here's how you exercise it!

*This tutorial is for Excel 2019/Microsoft 365 (for Windows). Got a different version? No problem, you can withal follow the verbal same steps.

Printing gridlines

Even though Excel'southward gridlines are displayed by default on your screen, they default to "off" when information technology comes to printing.

And that can be abrasive.

To print gridlines in Excel, open thePage Layout tab of the Ribbon.

In theSail Options section, netherGridlines, add a cheque next toPrint:

Now, when y'all impress your document, you'll run into gridlines on the newspaper.

To make sure your gridlines are going to print, head toFile > Impress and bank check out the print preview:

Displaying and hiding gridlines

Excel'southward workbooks have gridlines turned on past default. But if you desire, you can turn them off.

To practise that, open theView tab in the Ribbon.

In theShow section of the tab, remove the checkmark side by side toGridlines:

Once you've unchecked that box, the gridlines will disappear:

To actuate gridlines, add a checkmark to that same box.

(Note: you can too activate or deactivate gridlines from theFolio Layout tab; just select or deselectShow in theGridlines section.)

Changing the color of gridlines

Normally, gridlines are a medium-gray colour. But you tin customize that if y'all like.

Go toFile > Options > Advanced, and so ringlet downward until you find theDisplay options for this worksheet section:

At the lesser of this section, you lot can choose a new colour for your gridlines:

Select a new color, and your gridlines will no longer exist that boring grey!

Gridlines disappeared? Outset hither

If your gridlines have disappeared and you can't figure out how to get them back, there are a few things that might help.

First, brand sure that your gridlines are turned on. You lot can check this in theFolio Layout orView tabs. If you're non sure where, check out the sections above.

Next, make sure your cellsdon't take a fill color. If they're filled white, the gridlines volition be colored over. CullNo Fill instead.

Next, make sure your borders aren't white. Select all the cells that don't have border, then right-click and selectFormat Cells > Border.

If the colour is prepare to white, change it dorsum toAutomatic.

Finally, get toFile > Options > Avant-garde and brand certain your gridlines haven't been colored white (this is also detailed higher up).
